Buffalo Run, Bellefonte, and Bald Eagle Railroad
Hoping to link iron ore deposits in Scotia, near State College, with iron furnaces in and around Bellefonte, local businessmen formed The Buffalo Run, Bellefonte, and Bald Eagle Railroad. Construction began in the fall of 1883 from Bellefonte west along Buffalo Run. It reached the ore fields in 1887 and was extended into State College in 1891, but the deposits proved to be less extensive and pure than originally expected and the railroad filed for bankruptcy.
