he response to the call for volunteers was accompanied by enthusiasm and patriotism.  In less than one month seven companies were organized under the gallant leadership of Bellefonte, James A. Beaver, (Colonel) Robert McFarlane, (Lieut. Colonel) and George A Fairlamb, (Major).  Those troops were mobilized at Camp Curtin where they were joined by the companies recruited in Jefferson, Indiana and Clarion counties.

The colors of the Corps Badges signified the divisions in the Corps, of which there were three divisions. The 1st Division was Red, the 2nd
Division was White, and the 3rd Division was Blue.
