"The amount of bunting displayed in Bellefonte this week was more than ever before on any occasion."
"Prof. Hastings was perhaps, the hardest worked man in town this week and last. In addition to his duties as Principal of the Public Schools, just closing, be had also the labor of attending to the decoration of the town on his shoulders, being chairman of the deco rating committee. We mean, of course the street decorations, our citizens attending to the fixing up of their residences themselves. But Mr. Hastings worked like a beaver and got through with his complicated duties creditably, for which he deserves and will receive unqualified praise."
"BELLEFONTE did feel a little aggrieved. She had a notion to pout a trifle over the fact that the Masons induced her to put on her gayest attire to receive a large body of them in, and then to come here with such a pancity of numbers. But thinking it all over, our pretty borough concluded to smile about it, and she is smiling still. Never was a town more handsomely decorated. Flags, banners and devices of all sorts everywhere greeted the eye. Public and private buildings were alike ornamented. So many flags were never seen in our streets before, nor such pains ever before taken to make the town look gay and beautiful. Allegheny and High Streets were particularly handsome. Bishop street also looked well, and in fact the whole town wore its best attire. The streets were clean and neat, and the hose companies kept them well sprinkled, so that there was no dust to annoy our visitors.
What we mean by all this is that Bellefonte did her whole duty and even more than could have been expected of her. She extended unbounded hospitality to her visitors and showed her respect for their order by the manner in which she dressed up to receive them. It was, the general remark that our decorations far exceeded anything of the kind in any town the Knights have yet met in, and our citizens were highly commended for their public spirit."
"SPRUCE DECORATIONS - The grand demonstration on the occasion of the assembly of the different commandaries of Knights Templar this week in Bellefonte will in the future, no doubt, teach our citizens an important lesson on decorations with spruce bows. Long before it was absolutely necessary to commence the display at the Court House yard and other public places, the anxiety of the managers, whoever they were, to how the thing would look,) got the better of their judgment, and on Monday morning the beautiful trimmings wore the dismal aspect of a young forest blighted by a sweeping fire. In decorating, nothing yields a more beautiful contrast than the green bows of the spruce tree, and when an extensive demonstration is to be had such as the one this week - one that requires days of labor previous to the celebration, all such finished wreathes, festooning, &c., should be put in fresh water until the last moment for attaching to their proper places. Evergreen treated in this manner will retain its freshness, tenacity and durability for days. Let those who undertake the job for the gathering the Pennsylvania Reserves on the 4th of June next in Bellefonte bear this in mind."
"BANDS - Bellefonte has been alive with bands of music this week. The Silver Cornet band of Altoona, the Perseverance band of Lebanon, the Repasz band of Williamsport, the Agnes Wallace theatre band and our own Bellefonte band have all made the streets resound with delightful strains."
