Sutton Engineering

Sutton Engineering Co

1916 marked the beginning of the Sutton Engineering Co.  Like Titan Metal, Sutton established itself in a special area of manufacturing and build a reputation for quality products.  Sutton Engineering Co. was formed by P. B. Abramsen and John B. Sutton of Pittsburgh.  They moved into one of the old car works buildings which it leased, along Spring Creek.  Its main products were high speciality machines needed by other manufacturers and among the most frequent orders it filled was a machine to straighten metal bars and pipes.

In 1922 Sutton went through a period of financial troubles, but Bob Hunter organized sufficient local financing to stabilize the firm.  As a result of their efforts, Hunter and George Hazel were elected to the board.  During 1922, the firm decided to change its name to Sutton Engineering.

In 1963 Sutton Engineering acquired Maust Mach Co. of New York.

In 1979, the Sutton family sold the company to its current parent, SMS Schloemann-Siemag AG, a German firm that had been one of Sutton Engineering's competitors in the steel and aluminum equipment markets.

Several name changes have since ensued.

SMS Eumoco's presses, which dwarf locomotives, are used to push aluminum heated to 900 degrees Fahrenheit through dies into desired shapes.
